APPLY NOW! We are excited to announce the call for applications for Viadrinicum 2018! This year Viadrinicum will take place at European University Viadrina from 20 August to 2 September 2018 in the format of Transsectoral PeaceLab under the title "Hybrid Solutions to Hybrid Conflicts? Academia, Civil Society and the Arts". Applications are warmly invited from students, PhD candidates, NGO activists and artists (up to 35 years of age)! There is no participation fee and there are up to 30 travel scholarships available. The application deadline is June 10, 2018.

Viadrinicum 2018: “Transsectoral PeaceLab. Hybrid Solutions to Hybrid Conflicts? Academia, Civil Society and the Arts” - Frankfurt (Oder), 20 August – 2 September 2018

Viadrinicum is an annual summer school devoted to the countries of the Eastern Partnership region with a special focus on Ukraine. This year it will take place in the form of Transsectoral PeaceLab, aiming to tackle the issues of peace and (military) conflicts from multiple theoretical and methodological perspectives. With a strong emphasis on participatory formats the school will allow its participants to deepen their knowledge about conflict prevention, conflict transformation and peace mediation and enhance their practical and methodological skills in the framework of several project-oriented workshops. Students, PhD candidates, young artists and NGO activists (under 35 years of age) from all fields are invited to apply.


The programme of Viadrinicum 2018 features a mixture of different components, ranging from classical academic seminars and panel discussions to more participatory formats, such as workshops and Open Space sessions. It was designed with the end to strengthen the transsectoral and transdisciplinary character of the summer school, which appears to be necessary when tackling such intricate topics as war, conflict and peace. A versatile team of lecturers and practitioners from various universities and NGOs was assembled to enable a more holistic approach to this problematique that should allow a fruitful exchange of ideas and insights from different fields. Just as importantly, the programme was devised with the aspiration to facilitate a more active engagement on the part of the participants, whose invaluable contribution always stands in the center of the concept of Viadrinicum.
