CALL: Applications for cinema journalism across borders training open until 10 June (enpi-info.eu)

The EU-funded Directors Across Borders (DAB) project, which is part of the Eastern Partnership Culture Programme, has announced a call for applications for the Cinema Journalism Across Borders (CJAB) training programme. The three-day training is to be held in Yerevan, Armenia, from 4-7 July 2012. The deadline for entries is 10 June.


The Dutch professional film critic Peter Van Bueren will provide the theory and practice of cinema journalism and film criticism.


The participants will stay on for the whole of the GOLDEN APRICOT IFF (8-15 July 2012) and have the opportunity to work over the Festival Daily, covering the festival events including the DAB Regional Co-production Forum and Armenia -Turkey Cinema Platform.


CJAB is implemented by the GOLDEN APRICOT Fund for Cinema Development in Armenia and its partners - MAIA (Italy), INTERFILM (Ukraine), Cinema Art Center Prometheus (Georgia) and INTERNEWS (Armenia).


The aim of the 36-month Directors Across Borders project is to foster the development of conditions and structures through which cinema can be a vector for sustainable economic, social and human development within and between Eastern Partnership countries.


The €12 million Eastern Partnership Culture Programme aims at assisting the Partner Countries in their cultural policy reform at government level, as well as capacity building and improving professionalism of cultural operators in the region. It seeks to strengthen regional cultural links and dialogue within the Eastern Partnership region, and between the EU and ENP Eastern countries' cultural networks and actors. FILM: Winners of the 7th GOLDEN APRIC OT Yerevan International Film Festival (gaiff.am)

The 7th GOLDEN APRIC OT Festival is over, the closing ceremony of which was held in the Moscow Cinema. The Festival received 500 applications, at about 120 films have been selected and showcased, 45 of which were in the 3 sections of the international competition, and there were 5 international juries.

Äußerer Anlass für dieses Dokumentarfilmprojekt war Johannes Lepsius’ 150. Ge-burtstag im Dezember 2008. Der Potsdamer Theologe, Publizist und Philanthrop hat, unterstützt von bedeutenden Mitarbeitern, jahrzehntelang für das Überleben des armenischen Volkes gekämpft, das während des 1. Weltkriegs Opfer eines Genozids geworden ist, des ersten europäischen Volkermords im 20. Jahrhundert. Wir haben uns, zusammen mit Hermann Goltz (Lepsius-Archiv Halle / Potsdam), auf die Suche begeben und in Deutschland, Armenien, der Türkei und Syrien eine Fülle von Spuren des Hilfswerks von Johannes Lepsius gefunden.

Johannes Lepsius – Schutzengel der Armenier

Filmprojekt und audiovisuelle Installation

Der deutsche Theologe Johannes Lepsius gründete das Armenische Hilfswerk und gilt als der "Schutzengel der Armenier". Als im Jahre 1915 die Verfolgungen und Massaker der Türken an der armenischen Bevölkerung der Türkei in einen Völkermord umschlugen, reiste Lepsius in die Türkei, sammelte Zeugenaussagen und Dokumente und veröffentlichte schließlich in Deutschland die Dokumentation "Der Todesgang des armenischen Volkes", die wenig später verboten wurde. Anlässlich seines 150. Geburtstages im Jahr 2008 entstehen ein Dokumentarfilm und eine Videoinstallation über Lepsius' Leben. Der Film begibt sich auf die Spuren der Vergangenheit, indem er u.a. der Route der Todesmärsche der Armenier durch die Türkei und die Syrische Wüste folgt. Er beleuchtet aber auch die aktuelle Lage der Armenier in der heutigen Türkei. Der Dokumentarfilm und die Videoinstallation sollen künftig in Kinos und internationalen Kulturinstitutionen gezeigt werden.
