On July 6, Interior Minister of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Ramil Usubov met visiting European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus Heikki Talvitie. Describing the enhancing of our country’s cooperation with the European Union and its integration into Europe as one of priorities of the foreign policy of Azerbaijan, Minister Usubov stated his Ministry also paid particular attention to development of these relations. He added that a number of important laws meeting democratic principles and international standards had been passed in the country over the last 6-7 years. Ambassador Heikki Talvitie informed the Minister on the goal of his visit, and was curious about pre-election situation in the country, and how the Interior Ministry was prepared for the process. The Minister said the police was now drawing up plans to perform one of its major duties to ensure security of voters, polling stations and candidates. The meeting held in the presence of the Ambassador of the Great Britain in Baku Laurie Bristow, as well as representatives of the EU offices in Brussels and Helsinki, also focused on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
