About the GIFF
The purpose of the GIFF is to explore the cultural parallels of the Republic of Georgia and Ireland by showcasing award-winning feature and short films that explore topics that strike an identical note between the two cultures. In presenting Irish films to the Georgian audience, it is hoped that the similarities of the two nations can easily be recognized. At the same time, the festival gives Georgian filmmakers the opportunity to display their work to an international audience.
The depiction of a young nation with a long history of conflict whose society is built on the cornerstones of family values, religion and politics, and who has deep-rooted literary and musical traditions, and whose people are renowned worldwide for their lively conversation often fuelled by locally-crafted elixirs, can be applied equally to both Georgia and Ireland.
