This is another face of islam in Caucasus, you dont see it too often , not so much as terrorist accusation by Russian regime, self fullfilling prophecy. Angry young men, their culture ridiculed, their freedom taken away, turn to fundametalism. Wahhabism is getting sponsored by Gulf countries, by Saudis, but these women, those religious communities refuse to believe wahhabist propaganda that their old traditions of Sufism are heresy. They preach peace.

Frauenchor »Fixe Nixen«
Die »Fixen Nixen« sind vorrangig Frauen mit Berufen aus dem Bereich Film, Kunst und Medien. Ihr Repertoire reicht vom Renaissance-Madrigal über romantische Volkslieder bis hin zu Swing-Arrangements bekannter Hits. 2007 erhielt der Chor ein Engagement im Rahmen der Berlinale. 2009 konnte man die »Fixen Nixen« in der TV-Krimiserie »Flemming« als Polizeichor erleben. Im Juni 2014 gründete der Frauenchor den Verein »Die Fixen Nixen e.V.«, der es sich zur Aufgabe macht, das Liedgut für Frauenchöre weiterzuentwickeln und den Austausch mit vergleichbaren Gesangsgruppen zu organisieren. Im Oktober waren sie in Georgien, wo sie mit dem Frauenchor »Tutarchela« auftraten. 

Chorleiter Ralf Sochaczewsky arbeitet neben seiner Tätigkeit als Chordirigent regelmäßig mit renommierten Orchestern, darunter das London Philharmonic Orchestestra und das Konzerthausorchester Berlin, zusammen. Als Operndirigent wirkte er unter anderem am Bolshoi-Theater Moskau, der Komischen Oper Berlin und der Opéra National du Rhin (Straßburg).

SUPRA: Culture Georgian Banquet to Spiritual Side of a Supra

If one is describing Georgian culture, attention must surely be given to the traditional Georgian supra. At first glance it would be described as a banquet at which there is much food, wine, toasting, and singing. However, this does not describe the spiritual side of a supra.

Whenever space allows, the supra is always held at one long table, or a makeshift table of many joined together end to end, running from one room to another, if need be. The table is laden with wine jugs which are always kept full of excellent Georgian wine, and copious amounts of food of all kinds, so much so that the table surface almost disappears.

Each supra has a tamada (the closest English translation is "toastmaster") and is chosen by the host of the supra before the supra begins. Fulfilling one's role as a tamada is an art form in itself. A good tamada is a poet/wit/philosopher/social commentator/orator/singer who creatively improvises a beautiful atmosphere of community, camaraderie and love through his toasts which introduce periods of tranquility and reflection amidst the extroverted energy of table conversation. Through an adroit choice of songs which are sung after every toast, the message of each toast is given more resonance.

The order in which the toasts are given is important. Throughout most of Georgia, the first toast is always to peace, followed by a toast to parents, to brothers and sisters, to those who have passed away (especially to any friend or relative of any person present at the table), to life (especially to the lives of the children of those who have recently passed away), and then to love and friendship.

After all these toasts have been made in this order, the tamada is free to choose his own additional topics, maintaining the established creative flow, usually relating these toasts to the people present or to the occasion which prompted the supra. The topics, to name a few, might be to ancestors, to mothers, to beauty, to creativity, to absent friends who are far away, etc. After any of the evening's toasts, a guest, with the permission of the tamada, can add some thoughts of his or her own with another toast on the same topic. Starting a new topic without the tamada's permission would be a social blunder.

One important rule of the supra is that there should be no negative remarks or toasts, and it is the responsibility of the tamada to ensure that this rule is observed. Another rule of the supra is that one must not be drinking one's wine unless a toast has just been made, and so it is the tamada's responsibility to space out the toasts accordingly, so that everyone has a chance to imbibe, but not so often that people might become too intoxicated. In the hands of a good tamada, a supra is a beautiful, moving experience.

Sandro Kavsadze (1874-1939), director Tracks 4-8

Aleksandre Kavsadze, or Sandro, as he preferred, was born in the village of Khovle, in the region of Kaspi. He studied lirurgicalchant with Father Grigol (an orthodox priest) and later in church school at Gori. He became a choirmaster under the tutelage of the renowned folk singer, Simon Goglichidze. Young Sandro was recognized for his unique vocal talent, and was accepted into the first professional choir established in Georgia, under the direction of Ado Aghniashvili. Sandro quickly became very popular, and soon formed his own choirs, first in Gori, and then in Tbilisi. He directed the choir in Tbilisi until 1911, when he passed the direction to his nephew, Mikheil. At this time, Sandro moved to the province of Imereti, to work in the towns of Tkibuli and Chiatura, where he formed new choirs. He worked more than 20 years in Imereti. Sandro Kavsadze is remembered in Georgia to this day as one of the great masters of Kakhetian song, as director, teacher and performer. His choir was one of the first to record folk songs in the 1900s. Unfortunately, no record survives documenting who the singers in his choir were, and so they remain anonymous. Sandro Kavsadze died in 1939.

PRESS RELEASE: TUTARCHELA will celebrating their 5th anniversary in the Tbilisi State Conservatoire on 21th may 2009 at 7pm.

The Female Singer Choir TUTARCHELA from Rustavi celebrated many important concerts in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The Choir was popularized in Europe through the documentray film by Ruth Olshan „Like Air To Breath“. After this film and with the support from the music manager Utta Fritzsche, Ralph Hälbig and Olliver Jahn was the choir invited 2007 to the biggest world music festival in Germany in Rudolstadt (TFF Rudoldstadt – http://www.tff-rudolstadt.de/). Before that the state television company WDR in Germany made records with this choir in the studio. Since this time had Tutarchela every year concert arrangments in Europe.
This year TUTARCHELA have an invitation to the STIMMEN-Festival Lörrach (http://www.stimmen.com/) and in this autumn a concert in Paris.
Last year the concert tour in Germany and in Austria was supported from the Foreign Ministry and the Goethe-Institut in Germany. TUTARCHELA gave a succesful solo-concert in may 2007 in Rustavi. There was a folk-theater-performance. In December 2008 performed TUTARCHELA a concert together with the Male Singer Choir ,,Me Rustveli". Both Choirs played the Christmas Convention from Georgia. (it's called ,,Alilo").
For the future the choir is planning tto bring the georgian tradition of christmas with a performance to Europe. Additional a new DVD and CD with new song versions will coming soon. On the 21th may 2009 TUTARCHELA will celebrating their 5th anniversary in the Tbilisi State Conservatoire at 9pm, 8 Griboedov str., 0108 Tbilisi. (www.conservatoire.edu.ge)
In this Jahre founded the choir leader Tamar Buadze a second generation group from TUTARCHELA. Tamar Buadze have many plans for the future. The girls and women would like to creating a Folk-Theatre for celebrating a Georgian Wedding. The could be also interesting to bring the georgian culture in the world. Furthermore is TUTARCHELA adapting songs from Lazetien and planing an expedition for neighboorhord with Turkey.
Together with an initiative with Switzerland should be publishing of music notes of the repertoire of the songs from the choir. Aditional in the future should modern musician elements to enter in the programm.

The Rusalka Cycle: Songs Between the Worlds
Music from the 2005 vocal-theater project co-created by Kitka, composer and music director Mariana Sadovska, and stage director Ellen Sebastian Chang.

In Slavic folklore, Rusalki are the restless spirits of women who have died unjust, untimely or unnatural deaths. They inhabit the waters, forests, and fields, luring people to them with their mesmerizing songs and wild laughter. Performed by the eight powerful vocalists of Kitka, The Rusalka Cycle is a riveting dream-like journey that weaves traditional Eastern European folk song together with original music by Mariana Sadovska. This CD features Kitka singing as you’ve never heard them sing before. With stirring accompaniment by cellists Moses Sedler and Elaine Kreston, and percussionist Kevin Mummey, this CD captures the highly dramatic and risk-taking performance piece that took the San Francisco Bay Area by storm in the fall of 2005. Plans are currently underway to tour The Rusalka Cycle nationally and internationally in 2007-2008.

Deutschlandtournee September-Oktober 2007

Der Hover Kammerchor wurde 1992 durch seine Chordirektorin Sona Hovhannisyan und eine Gruppe Musikstudenten vom Komitas Konservatorium in Jerewan/Armenien gegründet. Seitdem konnte der Chor mit seiner frischen Art, Chormusik zu gestalten, zahlreiche Musikliebhaber begeistern und Kritiker überzeugen. Hover zeichnet sich insbesondere durch nuanciertes Timbre, Präzision und durch den gekonnten Umgang mit anspruchsvollen Harmonien und Rhythmen aus. Auch das Repertoire des Chores sucht seinesgleichen in Vielfalt und Umfang: Es enthält 170 klassische und zeitgenössische musikalische Werke armenischen, europäischen und amerikanischen Ursprungs.

Der Chor ist ein weitgereister Botschafter Armeniens und der armenischen Musik. Er hat bei seinen Auslandstourneen neben Erfahrungen auch schon mehrere Awards sammeln können: 1997 auf dem Internationalen Polyphonic Chorfestival in Arezzo/Italien und 1999 beim Internationalen Chorfestival in Tours/Frankreich. Im Jahr 2000 konnte Hover auf der 1. Internationalen Linzer Chorolympiade eine Goldmedaille erringen. Weitere Konzerte brachten den Chor 2003 nach Großbritannien, 2006 nach Frankreich und 2007 nach Polen.
Nun wird der Chor erstmalig auch nach Deutschland kommen. Im Gepäck hat er traditionelle armenische Sakralmusik, vor allem von der letzten Veröffentlichung, die übrigens bereits in Deutschland produziert worden ist: Eine gekonnte Neuvertonung der heiligen Liturgie der armenischen Kirche, genannt Patarag. Sie steht in der apostolischen Tradition, wie sie in der Armenischen Kirche Jahrhunderte lang mündlich überliefert wurde. Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts wurden die liturgischen Gesänge von dem berühmten Komponisten Komitas in zwei Choralsätzen zusammengefasst. Komitas, der heute als der Begründer der modernen klassischen Musik Armeniens gilt, schrieb sein Hauptwerk am Vorabend des Genozids am armenischen Volk, den er selbst, schwer erschüttert und zu weiterem Wirken sich außerstande fühlend, nur knapp überlebte. Die Rettung der musikalischen armenischen Tradition in letzter Stunde verleiht seinem Schaffen eine zusätzliche, schmerzliche Schärfe.

Tutarchela – Young Girl Singing Company

The girls' choir “Tutarchela” was established at the beginning of 2004 in Rustavi, under the guidance of Mrs. Tamar Buadze. The choir consists of 13 singers. Most of the girls have graduated from Tbilisi State conservatory's choir-conducting department. The group performs European and classic songs, folk songs of different countries as well as the folk songs of all the regions of Georgia.
For the short time of existence of the choir it has learned and performed wide repertoire of various genres. As to a women's choir, tutarchelas repertoire is standing out with its originality. They perform lots of Georgian folk songs which as a rule are sung only by the men. By the way, Tutarchela is the first Georgian choir which try to challenge the men singers. Choir's low voices are absolutely tremendous and the listener would never imagine it is performed by the women. It can provide an indispensable sounding board for even the hardest pieces to perform. Notably, the repertoire of the young singing girls is mainly represented by the ‘manly' songs, requiring a great deal of energy and emotion.
Very significant place in their repertoire is taken by lazic folk songs arranged by Mrs. Tamar Buadze. Lazeti once belonged to Georgia but at the moment it is Turkey`s territory. To collect forgotten, old songs from lazeti and transfer them into Georgian, traditional folk style was a conductor's great experiment and had a tremendous success.
Ensemble has recorded a CD just after 5 months of its foundation. There are 23 folk songs from all parts of Georgia.
As it was said earlier girls of Tutarchela perform a wide range of music. Not only works written by Georgian composers and Georgian folk songs, but also, motets, madrigals and music pieces of epoch of renaissance. They have also sung choirs of Mozart, Pergolezy and Brahms etc. Tutarchela has been participating in a number of cultural events in Georgia and abroad. The choir festival “Culturis Dgeebi 2004” held in May 2004, Tutarchela became a prize winner in 4 nominations:
• Best Ensemble;
• Best leader;
• Best performance of Georgian artworks;
• Best song arrangement.

In June 2004, Tutarchela participated in the Art Geni festival held at the Ethnographic Museum of Tbilisi. The television broadcasts of the festival made Tutarchela popular and loved throughout the country.
Tutarchela also took part in the Second International Symposium of Traditional Polyphony held on September 23-27, 2004 in Tbilisi , where the group diversely presented the Georgian singing folklore and gave an unforgettable impression on foreign guests of the festival.
Majority of the members can play Georgian folk instruments – panduri, chonguri, doli etc. The repertoire of the ensemble is rich and diverse in genres. The singers have abundant musical talents both in classic and folk spheres

Georgischer Tanz und Gesang in Berlin

Konzert am 22. & 23. Juni 2007 in der Galerie Terzo

Es erwartet Sie ein Treffen mit einem inzwischen in der ganzen Welt bekannten Männerchor, der berühmt für seine Polyphonie, für seine georgischen Volkslieder ist der größte Reichtum und der große Stolz Jahrhunderte alter Geschichte und Kultur des georgischen Volkes. Die auserlesenen Stücke dieser Gesangskultur werden Ihnen vom Staatlichen Ensemble Adshariens BATUMI vorgestellt.
Das Ensemble wurde vor 15 Jahren gegründet. Es hat sich einen festen Platz in der weiten musikalischen Welt erobert, nicht nur in Europa, sondern auf fast allen Kontinenten.

Entsprechend der Verantwortung wuchs das Konzertprogramm und wurde immer vielfältiger. Die Künstler besingen die Kampf- und Feier-Episoden aus der Geschichte, das Temperament und die Seele, Gefühle und Sorgen, den Glauben und die Zukunftshoffnung des georgischen
Volkes.
