VISAFREIHEIT: Wiedermal eine großartige Initiative in Hamburg - organisiert von der Georgierin Marika Lapauri-Burk (Lile e.V.)

Marika Lapauri-Burk

NEW BOOK: Cultural Archetypes and Political Change in the Caucasus. By Sergey Arutiunov (Author) & Nino Tsitsishvili (amazon.com)

Hardcover
Publisher: Nova Science Publishers (November 30, 2010)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1607417391
ISBN-13: 978-1607417392

For the people of the Caucasus history and ancestral heritage signals something that must be taken into account and set as an example for present actions. Today the Caucasus is a region where ancient pre-Christian and pre-Islamic rites of sun-worship, fertility, animal sacrifice, traditional moral views and cultural nationalism co-exist with international programs of human rights and equity, democratic political and governance structures, international jazz festivals and youth culture. The book interrogates the Caucasus through the prism of two interrelated categories of discourse, namely 'cultural archetypes' and 'political change'. Cultural archetypes reflect the persisting significance of historical memory and association with the past in customs, rituals, religion, inherited social values, everyday activities and artistic expressions. Political change is about globalisation, transnationalism and the turbulent political transition from closed, isolated and economically disadvantaged nations to open, pluralistic and democratic societies with more economic potential based on market economies that the Caucasian nations are currently experiencing. The book searches for crossroads between the two - how political changes can be based on existing cultural values and how cultures can serve as political discourse. Since recent political changes and future of the Caucasus are related to the establishment and possibility of building Western-style liberal democracy, many scholars and politicians contemplate whether it is feasible to build Western-style democracy while simultaneously preserving local social values. Will these nations go through the same way to democracy as did the West, or will they hold on to their unique physiognomy? Can traditional expressive cultures in the Caucasus preserve unique identity while political and social values will keep changing? The book does not provide a decisive answer, but by interrogating such persisting dichotomies as 'progressive' and 'static', 'pragmatic' and 'non-pragmatic', 'individualistic' and 'collectivist' societies, it certainly furthers our understanding of the relationship between the political and cultural realms of the Caucasus nations in comparison with those of the West.

EU-Programm: Accreditation of EVS organisations in Eastern Europe and Caucasus (salto-youth.net)

For more detailed information on the accreditation procedure, please consult the Accreditation Guide "Getting into EVS in EECA". To get to know more about European Voluntary Service (EVS) and Youth in Action programme please consult "Youth in Action Programme guide" (especially pages 60-61). The basis for accreditation is complement to the EVS Charter.

How does accreditation work?
Please NOTE: Accreditation does not ensure financial support, but it is a prerequisite for an application for a project grant at a later stage!

Below the procedure is explained shortly:

WHY to accredit?
Any organisation from Eastern Europe and Caucasus region wishing to send or host EVS volunteers or coordinate (support) EVS activities of other organisations must be accredited from 2011.Accreditation serves to gain access to EVS and to ensure a common quality standards.

WHO needs accreditation?
Any EVS organisation in a Programme Country, in South East Europe or in Eastern Europe and Caucasus needs accreditation. Expression of interest (EI) form is submitted by potential EVS organisation. The same organisation may request one or more types of accreditation (as sending, as hosting or as co-ordinating organisation).

In 2010, interested organisations can apply for accreditation till 31st October (this will allow them to be EVS project partners in first deadlines of 2011). Accreditation visits will be held:

* Russia, between 29 November - 10 December
* Eastern Europe [Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine], between 11-19 December
During the visits in 2010 the accreditors will first of all accredit active, experienced EVS organisations.
From 2011 interested organisations can apply for accreditation at any time.Ideally, accreditation will be carried out within six weeks after receipt of all documents (hopefully first local accreditations will be done till 1st April deadline).

BY WHOM

Veranstaltungssprache: Englisch
Anmeldeschluss: 25. Mai

For Human Rights and Int. Dialogue, Betreff: Kobuleti

Projektbeschreibung:

This project aims at fostering co-operation between Programme Countries and partner countries, namely East Europe and Caucasus Region, through training the participants in the basics of Youth in Action, project management, and youth exchange implementation.

The target group is young representatives from minorities across the European Union and ENP countries with no previous experience of youth in action projects, therefore we foresee an initial part of sharing about local realities and own NGOs, a middle part about project management, youth exchange implementation and training on budget and co-funding, valorisation and visibility of youth exchanges, and a final part of practice where participants are invited to form groups and network with each other preparing proposals for youth exchanges.

Moreover the training team foresees the figure of Coach, as when the training will be over the team of trainers will monitor the working groups and act as a reference for the participants who will apply for a youth exchange.

Objectives:

The following objectives have been set in order to reach a successful training:

· This project orginated from the original idea of Eastern Express implemented by SALTO EECA, this year due to causes beyond SALTOTMs control it will not be implemented, yet the training team who took care of the previous Eastern Express projects wishes to continue this succesful tradition, as it was mostly succesful in the past in number and quality of youth exchanges implemented between programme and partner countries.

· This project aims at empowering and providing networking opportunities to young people from ethnic and cultural minorities across the EU and Partner Countries. Particular attention given to those group who never had contact with the Youth in Action programme.

· Raising knowledge about each otherTMs situations and providing means of support such as Youth in Action will help raising in participants a sense of belonging to Europe and Europe was the body that brought the together and fosters co-operation among them. This will be the main mean to promote intercultural dialogue amongst
participants, to let them in more than one occasion be aware of their cultural, social, geographical and political differences and similiarities, especially comparing their minority status and its recognition by the national governments. Therefore through this project they will have means available to play protagonist roles in the development of youth policies in their realities and the promotion of active citizenship, counting also on the support of a strong network of similar organisations and youths in both Programme and Partner Countries. Especially for these reasons we decided that the training team on a voluntary basis will coach the assist the groups in their process of

The language of the course will be English. Participants should be proficient in English.

Dokumentation
Regie: Seda Muradyan, Arsen Gasparyan
Produktionsjahr: 2009
Dauer: 28 Min.

WEB: Web: Handbook "Volunteering in Georgia" (salto-youth.net)

Sebastian Schweitzer sebas.schweitzer@gmail.com

If you plan to move to Georgia, an English guide for supporting the cultural and logistic integration of foreign volunteers (or workers) was developed by the Academy for Peace and Development based in Tbilisi. Written by two of their workers, both former European Volunteers, Sebastian Schweitzer and Tiphaine Coulardeau, the handbook aims at promoting volunteering in Georgia and supporting successful projects for enhacing Georgian development.
It has been published in Tbilisi in October 2008. Digital versions are available on
www.salto-youth.net/eecapublications on the website of the organisation www.apd.ge

Synopsis:
Volunteering in Georgia - A Handbook "Georgia is a mysterious country for most people all around the world. This handbook is dedicated to all brave young people just dreaming or already packing to confront themselves to their Georgian adventure to come as European Volunteers.
Reading this booklet will give these newly-hatched volunteers some sense of orientation in the confusing reality of their new environment with plenty of unknown events, circumstances, encounters, haps and mishaps in a sonic dramatic decor of particularly obscure expressions like ... Marshrutka, Giorgoba, Mtskheta, Khvanchkara..."

Best regards,
Sebastian
