Der Slogan „Georgia – Made by Characters“ verkörpert das intensive

FESTIVAL: Off Europa: Discover Bulgaria - Black Sea Culture - in Dresden und Leipzig (bfot.de)
(bfot.de) Leipzig + Dresden, 19. - 28. September 2014
Trailer Festival Off Europa 2014 "Discover Bulgaria" from Off Europa on Vimeo.
Rand.
Zeit, all dies neu zu entdecken.
„Off Europa“ organisiert also wieder eine Art temporärer „Reichtumszuwanderung“. Mit Theater, Tanz und Performance, Filmen, Gesprächen und Musik an sieben verschiedenen Veranstaltungsorten. In beiden sächsischen Metropolen, in Leipzig und in Dresden. Wir laden Sie herzlich dazu ein.

ART: Artisterium VI in Tbilisi, Georgia (artisterium.org/Artisterium2013)
(artisterium.org/Artisterium2013) The concept, proposed by the creative group (students, artists, curators) is considered as the cultural process, appropriate to the creativity of the art academy’s teaching process and generally, to an artistic scene, the one, where the significant facet of the country’s cultural politics is defined. The architecture of the exhibition project’s content “Me and your freedom”, with its progressive world disposition impulse and the instinct of searching for the self-identity, is organically corresponding with the “Artisterium” idea.

Artisterium VI
4-14 October, 2013, Tbilisi, Georgia
Am I You?
The only difference between me and you are the choices we make.
Unknown quote
The Artisterium VI, the annual international contemporary art exhibition and series of public art events, opens in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on October 4th, and runs through October 14, 2013.
The theme of the Artisterium 6 / 2013 is “Am I You?” Acceptance of the unfamiliar is a crucial aspect of today’s life. There are many kinds of philosophical, social and psychological theories to describe our relationships to minorities, other nations, other religions, or people who think differently – The Other. In the words of Jacques Derrida, “the other can never be understood as presence, but only with concepts like traces and exteriority. He has completely broken with the phenomenological metaphysics of presence — the other can never be understood in a theoretical act, but only by means of ethical responsibility: I take responsibility for the other.” The uneasiness of this kind of responsibility triggers moments of cultural misunderstanding, religious, territorial or personal conflicts.
The Artisterium 2013 theme of “Am I You?” encourages participants to research the phenomena of the Other and the ecology of our relation and responsibility to the Other. We wish to explore possible ways of coexisting with unfamiliar, different or even disagreeable ideologies and lifestyles, while at the same time calling for participation, understanding and empathy. Through the year’s theme we hope to reveal modes of exploring the influence that shape our connections to divers thoughts and attitudes – and even the life forms – living next to us on this planet

EDUCATION: Teach in Georgia - Complete Guide to Teach English in Georgia (footprintsrecruiting.com)
Teach English in Georgia, a beautiful country that borders the Black Sea, Russia, Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
Footprints Recruiting has been officially selected as the primary provider of teachers to the Ministry of Education in Georgia. Footprints provides over 100 teachers each month to this Eastern European country.
Although this is considered a volunteer program, English teachers are paid a monthly stipend, enjoy homestay accomodation with a Georgian family, and are provided with free round-trip airfare! Those signing up for longer contracts are also offered one free round trip vacation flight each year during school breaks.
Georgia is a rapidly modernizing country with ancient traditions of hospitality. It is a country of incredible diversity; from glaciers to beaches to the highest mountains in Europe where 40% of the country is covered by forests. Teachers will be able to visit mountain top churches and castles that take them back to a different era. Georgia is a year round travel destination and this exciting program, developed by the government of Georgia, is a great opportunity for all types of teachers.
To encourage Georgian schoolchildren to master the English language is the main goal of the project “Teach and Learn With Georgia”.
Since the start of the program in July 2010 Footprints has helped a great number of teachers sign up for a Georgian adventure! Now, in the winter of 2011, more than a year later, numerous teachers who signed up for a semester are reapplying and extending their contracts while others are returning home with a great cultural and teaching experience to put on their resumes and share with their friends. This commercial, launched by the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science, emphasizes what Georgia is striving for -- advances in technology, language, and infrastructure.
Footprints is delighted to see one of our many Georgia teachers featured in this commercia -- Jessica Mishaga arrived in Georgia in October 2010.
People interested in changing not only their lives, but also the lives of many others should consider getting involved in this unique programme. Will you be next?

Resident in 2011
Pelin Tan (Turkey)
January 04-30
Presentation: Photos
The GeoAIR opened it's residency program in January 2010. This is a self directed residency program, that offers primarily curators and culture producers the opportunity to base themselves in Tbilisi, Georgia and use this location as a starting point to build networks, meet artists, cultural institutions and curators from the Caucasus region, and develop and deepen their knowledge and research of the Caucasus context. In return local artists, curators and organizations will have the opportunity to extend their knowledge about the innovative ways that many international curators are working. GeoAIR has designated her residency mainly for curators or cultural producers because it feels that they are most able to affect multiplier effects through exchange and production and are more equipped to use the residency as a platform from which to jump for to instigate future collaborations between the resident and artists and organizations form the Caucasus region.
Residents are expected to make at least one public presentation of their work or related topic for Georgia public.

NEWSLETTER: Best Wishes for the New Year from Harvard Program on Central Asia
By John Schoeberlein
Dear Ralph:
This is a year-end message from the Program on Central Asia and the Caucasus at Harvard University. I am writing with hopes that your New Year begins with the warmth of friends and brings you rich and satisfying times throughout the year.
Also, I want to make sure you are aware of resources of our Program that are of interest to those with a focus on Central Eurasia -- from the Crimea to Mongolia:
- In the next few months our Project on Islam in Eurasia will be publishing several policy papers dealing with issues related to the changing of Islam in former Soviet societies and their broader
implications for policy. If you wish to receive notification of the papers when they are published, or to have us mail them to you, please provide your information at the following site, where you can also learn more about the Project on Islam in Eurasia:
http://islam-eurasia.fas.harvard.edu/ie_maillist.html
- The resource of our program that draws the widest interest is our Central-Eurasia-L Announcement List for Central Eurasian Studies, with over 7,000 subscribers from all over the world and has served the Central Eurasian studies community since 1995. The list distributes
announcements about new publications, conference, jobs, fellowships and other events and resources of interest to those focused on this region. For more information or to subscribe, visit:
http://cesww.fas.harvard.edu/ces_cel.html
- For those interested in the same kind of information about events and opportunities exclusively at Harvard University and in the Boston area, you may subscribe to the Central-Asia-Harvard-List, which has over 5,000 subscribers:
http://centasia.fas.harvard.edu/hpce_internet.html
- The Central Eurasia Studies Society, which was based at the Program from 2000 through 2007, has a new host -- Miami University of Ohio. The next Annual Conference, which will be Sept. 15-18, 2011 at Ohio State University, is expected to an extraordinary gathering. The Call
for Papers will be available within the next couple of weeks (and you can sign up for CESS announcements) at:
https://www.cess.muohio.edu/
- If you are a member or friend of the Central Eurasian Studies Society, you might want to follow CESS activities and link with others with similar interests through the CESS Facebook group (accessible to Facebook members):
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sfrm=1#!/home.php?sk=group_172707566077693
- The Program on Central Asia and the Caucasus at Harvard will be hosting Central Eurasian scholars specializing on topics including Islam and national identity in Tajikistan, the mass violence in Kyrgyzstan in June 2010, popular Islam in Kyrgyzstan, population studies in Mongolia, sociology of intellectual elites in Kazakhstan, among other topics. If you would like to learn more about the visitors or make contact with them, see:
http://centasia.fas.harvard.edu/hpce_visitors.html
- Those interested in promoting better links between Central Eurasia scholarship and journalism are encouraged to become involved in the Central Eurasian Scholars and Media Initiative, which was launched this fall. For more information, contact Scholars.Media.Eurasia@gmail.com
- or visit our Facebook group at: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sfrm=1#!/home.php?sk=group_106716699397270
Finally, an observation from me, as someone who has specialized in Central Eurasia for almost three decades: As we approach the end of the second decade since the break-up of the Soviet Union, the implications for the study of that region can be said to be mixed. For better or worse, the possibilities for study of the region in international scholarship have greatly increased, though some parts of the region have been difficult to access and some are becoming more
difficult. The collapse of communist governments had an immediate, devastating effect on scholars in the region, though this has been partially mitigated by stabilization in some countries and by greatly increased opportunities for international support. The one area that is uniformly bright is the emergence of a new generation of scholars both within the region and globally who have been able "to put the region on the map" in international scholarship. Scholars of other
parts of the world now have much more reason to pay attention to the analyses of our part of the world.
For me, it has been tremendously satisfying to see so many good young colleagues doing work that is vastly more solid than what characterized the field when I began. Central-Eurasia-L grew quickly to encompass the lion's share of those who focused on the region, but still had less than 1,000 subscribers in 1997, whereas as now it has over 7,000. We've seen the emergence of the Central Eurasian Studies Society in 2000, and the annual conference a great critical mass of Central Eurasia scholars, as do ESCAS, ASN and some other some others, making for a tremendous community of scholars.
I wish you the very best for the New Year!

AKADEMIE: Feierliche Abschlussveranstaltung der GTZ-Akademie "Transformation Lawyers" (hertie-school.org)
Hertie School of Governance
GTZ Winterakademie "Rechtsdialog für Rechtstransformation"
Feierliche Abschlussveranstaltung der GTZ-Akademie "Transformation Lawyers" mit der Parlamentarischen Staatssekretärin im BMZ, Frau Gudrun Kopp, am 11. November 2010

Selected grant holders have the opportunity to spend up to three months at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland (www.unifr.ch) to work on their PhD. thesis or to participate in academic conferences. They have full access to the University library and benefit from state of the art research infrastructure. Besides, these grants give young researchers the opportunity to extend their academic networks by meeting scholars in their field of expertise.
Grants cover visa costs, travel costs, accommodation as well as daily expenses (on the basis of per diems). Accommodation is organized directly by the ASCN Programme.
Applications can be made anytime during the year. For organization matters, candidates must apply one month in advance.
General information about the grant programme as well as the application form is to be found on www.ascn.ch.
We would be grateful if you could disseminate this information to potential candidates and interested scholars.
Best regards,
Denis Dafflon
