Georgian State Institute of Theatre and Film (GSITF) - Tbilisi, Georgia


Even though America televises the most famous movie awards program and France has the largest film festival, Georgia might just be the only country to create a national holiday around the anniversary of the making of a film.
90 years ago, Vasil Amashukeli, the most famous cameraman in the whole Caucasus region of Europe, was invited to document the birthday celebration of one of the greatest Georgian poets and leaders of the country's movement for national independence. Akaki Tsereteli spent his 72nd birthday travelling through Racha-Lechkumi, a picturesque mountainous land in Western Georgia on the southern slopes of the Caucasian Range.
