Open Society Documentary Photography Project Announces Moving Walls 19 Photographers inc. Rena Effendi
The exhibition will open to the public on December 1, 2011, in the Foundations’ New York City office and move to the Washington, D.C., office in fall 2012.
The exhibition recognizes the brave and difficult work that photographers undertake globally in their documentation of complex social and political issues. Their images provide the world with human rights evidence, put faces onto a conflict, document the struggles and defiance of marginalized people, reframe how issues are discussed publicly, and provide opportunities for reflection and discussion. Through Moving Walls, the Foundations honor this work while visually highlighting the mission of our foundation to staff and visitors.
Approximately 400 applications were received this year. Each portfolio was carefully reviewed by the Documentary Photography Project staff, with the final decision being made by a selection committee comprised of Open Society Foundations staff and the show’s curators, Susan Meiselas and Stuart Alexander.
