ARCHITECTURE:

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Photo & Text on September 6, 2007 by Vladimer Shioshvili

I don't know if this picture is worth any words to be honest, but there is one thing I always wanted to write about - the scam gone awry. The building is the main part of the scam. I am not into property development, and don't know all the details, but apparently, there is some rule about living space versus office space, when building is being built. When acquiring permit for a building, developer needs to specify number of living floors. So they did, as I heard. They also decided that first two levels are business levels. Government gave them a permit to build a 5 story building, they tried tried to build a 6 story one.

All that exposed metal grid on the left side is pretty new. Meaning that it saw daylight again, after being snuggled by concrete for a few months. Top level is slowly being demolished to make space for the roof...

Tbilisi has recently seen a few high rise scandals, one behind the post office being the loudest one. A building was basically completed when government said that it needs to be taken down. So much for the housing boom...
