Caspian: Pipeline Seeks To Secure Gas For European Union

The European Commission and representatives of Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Austria have agreed to build a pipeline to transport Caspian gas to the European Union. The pipeline is part of EU moves to diversify energy supplies after gas from Russia was interrupted during a pricing conflict between Russia and Ukraine earlier this year. But the new project could assume political overtones, because Iran is one of the countries which could supply gas to the pipeline. more
