The logo on the home page is an artistic representation of the fourth letter, Doni, of the Kartuli Asomtavruli alphabet found in the manuscript of the Martvili Gospel and dated 1058 A.D.
The below given excerpt is taken from Dr Meskhi’s book Encounter after Millennia or the Story of the Bamyian Manuscript, volume I, A Comparative Kartvelo-Sumerian and Kartvelo-Egyptian Linguo-Cultural Study. It discusses some of the esoteric information retrieved through a linguistic and cultural analysis of the graphic design of the Kartuli Asomtavruli Doni.
Esoteric Mathematics and Geometry of Doni
Let us first give a fuller list of Doni's features:
- The Kartuli Asomtavruli Doni has three graphic designs: (round/circular, angular (rhomb) and square;
- All the three graphic forms of the Kartuli Asomtavruli Doni are the result of a purposeful singular creative act;
- There are two modifications the Kartuli Asomtavruli Doni: with and without the neck;
- The origin of Doni cannot be considered to have been determined once and for all.
Due to the fact that a detailed study of Doni cannot be accomplished even within the framework of a thick monograph, I shall only touch on several aspects below.
Why did the creators of the Kartuli Asomtavruli Alphabet create several forms of Doni? What did they strive to transmit by the graphic diversity of the letter?
Prof. R. Pataridze has greatly contributed to the unlocking of the mystery of the Kartuli Asomtavruli alphabet, and the letter Doni, in particular. Therefore, understandably, the present work basically rests on his ground-breaking opus, Kartuli Asomtavruli (Tblisi, 1980), whose translation and availability in English will be of great help to paleographers as well as scholars of other fields of ancient history.
Let us now talk about the numerical significance of Doni. As is well known, Doni occupies the fourth place in the alphabet. "Numeral 4 is one of the sacred numbers in the Pythagorean theory. It hides the mystery of the perfect Pythagorean number 10 (decade), for 1+2+3+4 = 10. According to the Pythagoreans four is the first square number and is the metaphysical square of a number in general. Therefore, four is the first positive female number. A square, as the expression of figure four, was attributed by the Pythagoreans to great Mother goddesses, namely, goddesses Rhea, Demeter, Aphrodite, Hera, and Hestia.
"…Astrologically the fourth letter-sign of the alphabet belonged to the fourth sky, the sky of the sun. The Kartuli Doni is the heavenly sign of the sun and occupies the fourth sky. Its number is four. Therefore, the sun deity of the Kartuli Asomtavruli alphabet should be a female deity. The moon is the male deity in the Kartuli alphabet, but the sun is a goddess" (Pataridze, p. 184).
There is only one logical conclusion to be drawn from the above listed features of the Kartuli Asomtavruli: the information decoded by R. Pataridze is esoteric knowledge, knowledge encoded into the system of the alphabet at the time of its simultaneous and purposeful creation, knowledge that its creators desired to transmit. However, there is a small discrepancy: the given esoteric knowledge is decoded on the basis of Doni's circular design, which is regarded to have been created on the analogy of the Phoenician triangle Dalet. The deciphered information therefore is only one aspect of a whole body of knowledge. The cryptography of angular and square Donis is yet to be disclosed.
Here, I shall discuss only Doni's square graphics, for which we need to turn to R. Pataridze's Kartuli Asomtavruli again:
"Pythagorean teachings equated numbers with geometric bodies. Therefore, a number has its corresponding geometric body and vice versa, geometric bodies have their numbers. In Pythagorean understanding number "one" is the source of numbers in general, but oneness is not yet expressed in it. According to the Pythagorean view a dot is spacious "one" and therefore it has no dimension: a geometric straight line is spacious "two;" it is endless; it has neither beginning nor end. Therefore, two is a negative number. As to three it is the first geometric body, the first geometric space. Three, trinity - is a triangle (Pataridze, p. 242; emphasis added).
Continuing the citation of the Pythagorean idea presents no difficulty: the corresponding geometric body of number 4 is a square. Hence, Doni's recorded square and angular/rhomboid forms are different geometric expressions of its numerical order 4. As a result, Doni’s variant shapes (round, angular, square) and its numerical order (4) represent the mathematical and geometrical unity of two "irreconcilable" (circular and square) geometrical bodies. The equation (the shapes of Doni) defies traditional knowledge but is in astounding harmony with ancient knowledge, namely, the model of the Pythagorean 10 spheres, which besides circles were sometimes represented by squares.
And yet, the significance of a square goes beyond Doni’s graphic variants and mathematical-geometric equations. A square represents the basis or mold for the graphic design of the entire Asomtavruli alphabet where strict proportions of 9 combining elements are "subordinated to the square principle" (Machavariani, p. 14) *. Therefore, the oneness of mutually exclusive geometrical shapes - circle and square - of the Kartuli Asomtavruli Doni explains not only the numerical order of the letter in the alphabet but more importantly, reveals the foundation principle of letter-sign construction of the entire alphabet.
Consequently, the numerical significance of the Kartuli Asomtavruli Doni is prompted not only by astral (fourth sky), mathematical (the mystery of the decade), and religious (female deities) factors, but also by various pieces of hidden ancient knowledge:
- Mathematical and geometric harmony manifested in numerical and shape correlation;
- Identity of circular and square shapes;
- A square used as a cardinal principle of alphabet (Kartuli Asomtavruli) construction;
- Use of the alphabet as a means of transmitting concealed and codified information.
Interestingly, the mysteries encoded in Doni are not limited to the presented information. Doni's numerical sequence (4) and the arcane square shape match Semitic and Greek with surprising precision. Compared to the Kartuli Asomtavruli Doni, there is an inconsistency between the alphabetical order (4) of the Semitic and Greek Dalet and Delta and their graphic designs. Occupying the fourth place in their respective alphabetical sequences, both letters (Semitic Dalet and Greek Delta) have a triangular shape, i.e. their numerical significance is three. The described "unpretentious interference” of the Kartvelian Doni in the Phoenician alphabet and Greek or the cornerstone alphabet of the western world reveals incompatibility not only between the geometric shapes of Semitic Dalet and Greek Delta with their alphabetical order but more importantly, uncovers the esoteric square face of the Sun God hiding behind ordinal number (4).
