The financial-budgetary committee of Parliament has considered and supported legal initiative, presented by the MP Rati Samkurashvili, representing majority. The amendments envisage changes in system of funding of political parties.

EURO CHAMBER PLANS TO SUPPORT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF EU NON-MEMBER COUNTRIES
The meeting of presidents of commerce and industry chambers of states, which are not EU members, but associated, however, in EuroChambres, has been held today in Tbilisi. EuroChambres president Pierre Simon, representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Croatia, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldavia, Norway, Russia and Turkey discussed relation deepening, legal base harmonization, European Neighboring Policy realization and other questions.
CREDITS ISSUED IN FOREIGN CURRENCY 3 TIMES EXCEEDS ISSUED IN NATIONAL CURRENCY
According to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), credits issued in foreign currency made up $1.3 billion. This volume, calculated in lari equivalent, almost 3 times exceeds total volume of credits, issued in national currency – 764 million lari.
DEPOSITS IN FOREIGN CURRENCY EXCEEDS TWICE DEPOSITS IN NATIONAL CURRENCY
As the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) informs, bank deposits, placed in foreign currency, made up $770 million in 1st quarter. The volume, calculated in lari equivalent, exceeded twice volume of deposits, placed in national currency, which amounts to 603.4 million lari.
TRADE SESSION SCHEDULE CHANGED
As Georgian Stock Exchange informs, new trade session schedule have been launched from May 2007.
Trade sessions will be held three times a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

TBC-BANK PLANS ACTIVELY DEVELOP RETAIL CREDITING
New strategy of TBC- Bank envisages retail crediting active development, Vakhtang Butskhrikidze, the bank president said. Addressing opening of new branch in Didube district of Tbilisi, Butskhrikidze noted that the bank plans to invest $25 million in broadening of branch, service center and ATM network.
WESTERN UNION RANKS 1ST IN MONEY TRANSFERS
As the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) informs, 23% of total money transfers to Georgia and 39% of money transfers from Georgia was made through Western Union. Western Union ranks the 1st in accordance with these figures.
ONE COMPANY SUBMITS APPLICATION ON CITY CONCERT HALL
Application on LLC Tbilisi State Concert Hall 49-year leasing was submitted by one company – International Event, the Ministry of Economic Development reports. Competition commission is to make decision in 10 days.

COPPER ORE, BLACK METAL SCARP AND FERROALLOY WERE LARGEST EXPORT ARTICLES IN Q1
As the Statistic Department of Georgia informs, export volume made up $225.2 million in January-March, exceeded last year’s figures by 2%.
The largest share (9.3%) accounts for copper ore and concentrates, the volume of which made up $21 million and 2 times exceeded last year’s figures.
RUSSIA MAINTAINS POSITION OF LARGEST TRADE PARTNER FOR GEORGIA
According to Statistic Department, Russia maintained position of Georgia’s largest trade partner in 1st quarter of 2007. However, its share in Georgian trade turnover has reduced from 19% to 14.3%.

LLC ENERGY INVEST DEMANDS UNITED DISTRIBUTING COMPANY TO PAY 5.24M LARI
As Sarke was told in Tbilisi City Court, LLC Energy Invest has brought an action against United Distributing Company. LLC claims 5.24 million lari, 5.23 million of which is electricity cost and 50,000 lari accounts for state duty.
UP TO 61% OF PREMIUM, ATTRACTED BY AIG GEORGIA IN 2006, ACCOUNTED FOR REINSURANCE
According to the Georgian Insurance Supervision Service, up to 61% of premium, attracted by AIG Georgia, daughter structure of AIG (American Insurance Group) Europe, accounts for reinsurance.
Total premium, attracted by AIG Georgia, made up 1.3 million in 2006.
LLC TERMINALI IN ADLIA ESTIMATED FOR $1M
Economic Development Ministry has brought LLC Terminali at an auction repeatedly. LLC is located in village Adlia, Khelvachauri district of Ajara.
BATUMI RESORT HOSPITAL BROUGHT REPEATEDLY AT AN AUCTION
The Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia accepts till May 31 applications on 99% of JSC Batumi Resort Hospital. The state share (118,790 shares with nominal value 1 lari) is estimated at $1.3 million, instead of $2.4 million, being fixed in September.

As National bank of Georgia (NBG) reports, the number of plastic cards grew up by 163,000 in 1st quarter and exceeded 1 million. 80% of it accounts for Visa cards, 19% – EuroCard/MasterCard (EC/MC).
ONLY ONE INSURANCE COMPANY FAILED TO MEET DEMANDS ON CHARTERED CAPITAL INCREASE
As the Insurance State Supervisory Service informs, only one company out of 14 failed to meet demand on chartered capital increase.

7.8M LARI RECEIVED FROM AUCTION ON FORESTRY LONG-TERM LICENSE
The auction on forestry 20-years leasing license was conducted today in the Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources. The total income of auction, where 3 forestries were brought, amounted for 7.8 million lari instead of starting price of 4.6 million.
$880,000 PAID FOR ORE DEPOSIT PROCESSION IN AJARA
Georgian-British-South African company Metalon Georgia will pay $880,000 for ore deposit procession license in Merisi, Keda district of Ajara. This is result of first auction, held in the Ministry of Environment Protection and Nature Resources under the project “Invest in Fossils”.
14 FOREIGN AIR COMPANIES OPERATE ON LOCAL MARKET
As the National Transport Regulating Commission informs, permission on air flights were granted to 4 Georgian and 14 foreign companies. There are no Russian air companies among them.
CASPIAN TRADING TO PURCHASE OIL FROM STATE CORPORATION
Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation reports that Caspian Trading, registered in Georgia with foreign participation, won the right to purchase 16,000 t of oil till the end of the year. The company was the only participant of first auction, held today.

The Parliament has approved today terms for consideration of government-initiated amendments in budget-2007. Proper bill was passed to the Parliament yesterday.
EXTRA FUNDS TO BE ALLOCATED FOR COVERING LOSS, CAUSED BY CHIATURMARGANETS
As the Ministry of Finance informs, extra funds will be allocated for reparation of population’s damages, caused by JSC Chiaturmarganets activity.
$1.74 million and 965,412 lari will be allocated for Chiatura municipality from reserve fund of government.

EORGIAN OIL AND GAS CORPORATION ACQUIRES SWISS NPL ASSETS
Oil and Gas Corporation of Georgia have acquired assets of Swiss NPL for $4.7 million, Aleko Khetaguri, director general of Corporation, said. The contract envisages transference of rights and obligations of NPL, as well as 50% in LLC Ioris Veli, founded with Swiss participation.
GALT&TAGGART PLANS TO CHANGE LIST OF GEORGIAN BLUE CHIPS
Goga Melikidze, finance analyst of Galt&Taggart Securities, told to Sarke that changes are to be made in list of Galt&Taggart Blue Chip Index (GTBCI) defining companies.
As Melikidze said, less liquid companies will be replaced with more liquid ones.
TBILISI RAILWAY-CARRIAGE REPAIR WORKS PLANS TO ISSUE ELECTRIC TRAINS

INVESTMENTS IN UNITED TELECOM TO MAKE UP $50M FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS PERIOD
Yoerg Shmolinski, director of JSC Georgian United Telecommunication Company, declared today that investments of $50 million will be made within next 3 year. He said that the funds will be used for the infrastructure and cable renewal in major cities of Georgia. Currently 50% of infrastructure and 75% of cables is useless, said Shmolinski.
BTA SILK ROAD BANK OFFERS VISA CLASSIC AND VISA GOLD TO CUSTOMERS
As BTA Silk Road Bank informed Sarke, clients will be offered Visa Classic and Visa Gold plastic cards in May. At this stage bank issues only Visa Electron, which emission has been launched from the beginning of last year.
FREIGHT DOCK OF BATUMI PORT TO BE LEASED FOR 25 YEAR
The Ministry of Finance and Economics of Ajara has announced auction on 25-year leasing of freight dock of Batumi port with attached land plot (11,000 square m). The starting price is $2.8 million.
LLC TRANSPROEKTI TO RECEIVE LAND PLOT INSTEAD OF PROPERTY TRANSFERRED TO STATE
Ministry of Economic Development grants LLC Transproekti (design and research institute) with the right of land direct privatization, in exchange of the land plot, which was passed free of charge to the state. The decision was made based on the institute appeal to be granted the right to acquire this land plot (with constructions) in preferential price.
LAND PLOTS IN LIAKHVI GORGE TO BE PASSED TO LLC ERTGULEBA
As the Ministry of Economic Development informs, LLC Ertguleba will be given non-agricultural land plots in Liakhvi Gorge, Gori region. The lands are passed instead of repairs to be carried out in administrative buildings.

OIL AND GAS REGULATING AGENCY REORGANIZATION IS PLANNED
The Parliament approved today in first hearing package of amendments, according to which Oil and Gas Resource Regulating National Agency will be replaced by Gas and Oil National Agency. It will be established as substructure of Energy Ministry.
LOCAL TAXES AND FEES WILL BE COMPLETELY DIRECTED TO LOCAL BUDGETS
The Parliament adopted today in first hearing amendments to bills “On Basis of Fee System” and “On Tax, Non-Tax and Capital Revenues Distribution Between Budgets”.
Dimitri Kitoshvili, parliament secretary of the president, said that the amendments were conditioned by the inconsistence in legislation.

AGREEMENT WITH FRANCE ON DOUBLE TAXATION AVOIDANCE IS RATIFIED
Parliament has ratified the agreement between Georgia and France on avoidance of double taxation of income and profit. The agreement was signed on March 4.
LIABILITIES TO KFW TO PASS FROM NATIONAL BANK TO FINANCE MINISTRY
Agreement with German KfW bank has been certified by the Parliament today. The agreement envisages handing over obligation on KfW-allocated credit for emergency rehabilitation in Georgian energy sector.
NET PROFIT OF BANKING SYSTEM MADE UP 25.4M LARI IN Q1
As National Bank of Georgia (NBG) informs, net profit of banking system amounted to 25.4 million lari in the 1st quarter. This figure exceeds last year’s showing by 36.6%.
SECOND STAGE OF GAS MAIN RECONSTRUCTION TO LAUNCH FROM KAZBEGI
As Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation informs, the second phase of North-South gas main rehabilitation will start from Kazbegi district (Mtskheta-Mtianeti region). Millennium Challenge Georgia (MCG) foundation allots $25 million for that.

AVERAGE WEIGHED PRICE OF BANK OF GEORGIA’ STOCK INCREASED FROM 32.799 LARI TO 50.896 LARI
Share of Sakartvelos Banki (Bank of Georgia) increased from 32.799 lari (January 4) to 50.896 lari (April 24), Georgian Stock Exchange informs.
Securities of the mentioned bank hold the leading position in the Exchange’s turnover in 1st quarter – 313,650 stocks worth of 12.7 million lari (37% of total).

LEASER TO CARRY OUT KUTAISI RAILWAY STATION RECONSTRUCTION IN HALF A YEAR
Kutaisi railway station reconstruction should be accomplished in 6 months, LLC Georgian Railway reports. The reconstruction should be conducted by leaser, who has to invest 300,000 lari.

According to Georgian Statistics Department and Patrol Police, number of cars has been increased by 50% during past 3 years. If 60 cars accounted per 1,000 people in 2003, then by the end of 2006 the figure made up 90.
THIS YEAR 25M LARI SHOULD BE ALLOCATED ON MELIORATION
Agriculture Ministry informs that 20 million lari has been spent already on melioration system development, and 24.7 million investments should be made this year. Until 2009, additional 30 million will be invested.

UP TO 80% OF TOTAL NET PROFIT IN BANKING SECTOR ACCOUNTS FOR 5 BANKS
According to National Bank of Georgia (NBG), in 1st quarter net profit of 5 banks from 18 operating ones amounted to 20.2 million lari. It made up 80% of total net profit in banking sector of the country.
5 BANKS HOLD 81% OF BANKING SECTOR’S ASSETS
In the 1st quarter assets of 5 banks from 18 operating ones made up 3.8 billion lari (81% of total), National Bank of Georgia (NBG) informs.
Bank of Georgia holds leading position with its assets of 1.5 billion lari (33% of total).
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MINISTRY CALLS FOR INITIAL INTEREST IN RIKOTI TUNNEL LEASING
Ministry of Economic Development has called investors to express their interest in long-term leasing of Rikoti tunnel. Leasing period is 49 years.
THIRD MCDONALDS TO BUILD IN TBILISI
Temur Chkonia, president of Coca-Cola Bottlers Georgia, and Giorgi Arveladze, Minister of Economic Development of Georgia, have announced today on constructing of third restaurant of McDonalds. The restaurant will be located in Saburtalo district, near Sport Palace.
AUCTION ANNOUNCED ON FISHING LICENSE
Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources has announced an auction on fishing license in Georgian sector of Black Sea. Applications are to be submitted to May 8.
