The nation of Georgia is not often associated with progressive music (SINATLIS TSELITSADI being a rare exception). But in STUMARI progressive folk music fans can find a band that delivers traditional Georgian folk themes revitalized by progressive, classical and chamber influences. The band was formed in 2002 and has a pair of studio recordings to their credit. The band is characterized by both acoustic regional instrumentation and electronic sounds, as well as enchanting vocals woven within bucolic, lengthy instrumental passages.

LIVE-RECORDING: "Be Yourself" by Nestan Bagration-Davitashvili
Nestan Bagration-Davitashvili: Voc, Piano, Synth, Beatbox
Live recording in Vox Ton analog recording studio Berlin by Francesco Donadello
Video: George Charkviani
Nestan Bagration-Davitashvili
Pianist, singer, composer
Growing up in a famous Georgian artist Ancestry royal family, was faced early on with the pianist in the world of culture, has many inspirations take in, process, and continued to develop artistically quickly.
First performances at age 5 years. She studied piano in Tbilisi, Georgia at the music school.
At the age of 16 you got the special prize "Discovery of Festival" at the Festival 'Margarita 96'
As a scholarship student of the Berklee College of Music in the U.S., she composed the first works.
Since 2007, she received a scholarship from the Yehudi Menuhin launched "live music now" and in 2009 Fellow of a DAAD scholarship. Critics wrote about her: "If the pianist Nestan Bagration-Davitashvili occurs, we see how" music borders "s passed by our ears, how to approach seemingly different genres of music at the end, come together, or also be attributed to their common ground. Nestan Bagration-Davitashvilis music is an open-hearted commitment to the origins of mankind. It needs no words, phrases or a specific language. Alone satisfy her syllables to express all human emotions of joy and pain. But one thing will lead like a red thread through the concert tonight: the highest intensity of her presentation.
"Their music does not quote, it is new. It takes in everything around us and includes it in a new way: noise, sound, music. Their energy comes from the stomach and catapulted himself through the heart and intellect. She sings, reads, plays … " And it is the comprehensive training and mental penetration because, Nestan Bagration-Davitashvili knows exactly what paths are going in the interpretation and music scene.
Your analysis skills are overwhelmed their intuition in every way. It has to develop in recent years, their own personal style that can be difficult to define. Thus, their interpretations are genre independent today, marked by high, stirring Intensitet. Currently lives and works Nestan Bagration-Davitashvili in Berlin, Germany

Zaza Rusadze »A fold in my blanket«
DVD Release Party
7 October 2014, 8:30pm
Dear Friends,
Image Movement is delighted to host the DVD release party of Zaza Rusadze's film »A fold in my blanket«.
Zaza Rusadze is a film maker from Tbilisi, Georgia. His first full length film, 2003 Bandits, a documentary about the hijacking of a soviet passenger plane in Georgia and its aftermath, was awarded at film festivals in Spain, Hungary and Germany.
His full length feature debut »A fold in my blanket« deals with the relationship of Andrej and Dmitrij, what seems to be a one-sided, unfulfilled love affair. The beautiful shot movie wallows in luxurious landscapes with the imaginary of rock climbing as a metaphor of freedom – in an unnamed post-soviet country under an obviously strict leadership and within strange social interactions in family life as well as in work life.
»A fold in my blanket« premiered on last year's Berlinale film festival where it was selected as opening film of the Panorama section. The film travelled the world among it festival screenings in Locarno, Yerewan, Hong Kong, Mumbai, or Sao Paulo. It won the award for Best Feature Film at Queer Lisboa 17 festival.
At Image Movement Zaza Rusadze will be present.
Admission is free. The event starts at 8:30pm.

EXHIBITION: Supra of Her Own / საკუთარი სუფრა - 25th until July 22th 2014, at the Nectar Gallery in Tbilisi (gallerynectar.ge)
(gallerynectar.ge) We cordially invite you to ‘Supra of Her Own’ – an exhibition about gender-based violence against women in Georgia. From June 25th until July 22th 2014, at the Nectar Gallery in Tbilisi, we offer a reflection about the social invisibility of women’s painful experiences and propose new possibilities of making it public.
Supra of Her Own is a collaboration between an artist - Tamuna Chabashvili (Georgia/Netherlands), an anthropologist - Agnieszka Dudrak (Poland/Switzerland), a Georgian NGO (Anti-Violence Network of Georgia), and a grassroots initiative გესმით ქალების ხმა?. The exhibition will also host five days of performances by Mareike Wenzel (Germany), a lecture by Nadia Tsulukidze (Georgia/Netherlands), and sound installation by Eliza Proszczuk (Poland).
In patriarchal societies, many women’s experiences remain invisible, hidden, taboo, or even nameless. This exhibition will become a temporary, open space, resembling Virginia Woolf’s a Room of One’s Own, where diverse testimonies of abuse will become visible and open for interpretation and discussion.
Inspired by the traditional Georgian dinner – a supra - we will place on our metaphorical table that which is generally banned from the table – stories of women who experienced gender-based violence. Our project conceives of our supra as something more than a male-dominated and suppressive performance of social norms. For us, supra can be an improvised performance where deep, personal feelings can be expressed publicly in an atmosphere of hope, of laughter, of creativity and freedom. Using the supra with all its normative and subversive potential as a metaphorical platform will allow us to make the invisible visible, and raise awareness of the ways in which many of us conspire in the process of silencing of some women’s experiences.
The installation and videos are based on the quotations from interviews; mostly survivors of domestic abuse. In addition, women who experienced this type of violence, some members of the grassroots initiative “გესმით ქალების ხმა?” created memorabilia based on their personal experience. In this way we wish to give voice to those who are generally silenced.
In her performance the actress Mareike Wenzel will inhabit the installation of Tamuna Chabashvili for several days. She is going to explore the space by living there and creating a kind of shadow character and a moment of irritation for the observer. It is not about creating a big scenario but rather about images showing how women experiencing violence, are often made invisible in our society. It is more about the looking from the outside into space, about what is visible and what stays hidden. Mareike will start after the opening on Tuesday night and stay till Friday morning.

NEW ALBUM "DRESS" COMING OUT IN MAY 2014!!! Single "Position" now in heavy rotation on KCRW (US) and also featured on BBC2.
In her 23 Sophie Villy is well known for her unique performing style. Minimalistic arrangements, vintage guitar's distinctive twang and soulful timbre of voice open up another deep world, full of grace and intelligence, nurtured in the bohemian quarters of Georgian culture. Artists were common visitors to Sophie's childhood home in Tbilisi, they undoubtedly left their mark. We hear, as a result, both the voices of modern neighbors and the echoes of twelfth-century poet Shota Rustaveli. Grounded in that multifaceted heritage, Sophie's debut album "Mother Fish" now takes a wide range of private stories to the outside world. The singer and her catalog are one and the same: wholly sincere and full of incisive observations.. You can feel a kind of 'eastern' power, even spirituality, within her work. At times it seems to adopt the illusionary forms of mirage: if you can see or hear Sophie - even once - you'll be unable to forget her.
Sophie Villy's new single "Position" is one of her most acclaimed songs, released after her first US tour (2012). "Position" is louder than any demonstrations and revolutionary speech.
Sophie whispers to all the people to be strong and wiser, to stay away from all the dirty political games, stay free inside of your heart. Sophie Villy is an author of soundtracks for French, Georgian, American and Ukrainian films.
"Her voice is transcending; it sounds worldly and magically. She has a unique, yet common spirit." Richard Galliano

Mai bei Bureau B, 2+2=22 (The Alphabet) demnächst.

MUSIC: Sikha - George Sikharulidze, London, Britain (UK) (soundcloud.com/sikha)
(soundcloud.com/sikha) Originally from Georgia, Sikha (George) was soaked in classical jazz, rock and pop from very early age. Later he found alternative rock, fusion and electronica as the main sources of inspiration to start playing bass guitar, singing and founding Georgian alternative band Afternoon Version in mid 90s.
Since 2001 Sikha has been living in London. He pursued solo career producing mainly house music and started DJ-ing in early 2006. He has released several EPs and an album of collected tracks on New York label System Recordings, also had one off releases on German and Dutch labels. His DJ-ing has taken him to underground clubs of London and Berlin, also Spain and France.
Sikha’s DJ sets are mainly based on deep tech house but can be mixture of little bit of everything. He has not forgotten his influences so his mixes always carry very emotive, melodic and rich textures with unexpected changes of mood, subtle mysticism and they are strongly infused with funk dynamism and intelligent rhythm sections.

VIDEO: "Live@Twilight" #7 with TeTe Noise (youtube.com)
(youtube.com) TeTe Noise: I don't have any philosophy, but all my life I've dreamt that i can fly, and that I know what it means to fly. In lots of dreams I leave earth. I often dream that I'm in a surrounded by people in tuxedoes, holding drinks in their hands, and I know I could shut them all up in one go. They don't want me there. Then I'm on tiptoes and I let myself go, I just take off and I end up on the ceiling. And then ... I swoop down to the floor and fly up again, and everyone says, "Oh!" Then I turn elegantly at the wall. I dream that the people are all speechless, watching me, a man, fly. Or I dream that I'm flying over mountains. That's a classic. My Music has shown it from the start. In the studio I close my eyes, I ave my hand on the fader, and I try to form the sounds. I send them through the speakers like a bird flying. That's not a philosophy, more like primitive dream to make the music fly because I'm flying.
