Following the Georgian offensive on the night of August 8, 2008 in the Separatist Republic of South Ossetia, this part of the Caucasus seems to be ablaze. After a half day of an offensive flash from the Georgian army, which had initially taken over numerous positions, Russia conspicuously entered into the combat to assist Ossetian separatist militias, putting the conflict on a track towards a Russian-Georgian war.
